This is one of the hidden features of windows 10, actually it is not hidden you may have seen it daily but ever asked what does this function do? It is the User switch option in the shutdown menu from the start, which will switch users without logging you out form this user’s account and logging you in in another windows user account. I will post a detailed guide on how to enable or disable this feature.

How to enable or disable fast user switching for windows 10?

There are 2 methods to enable or disable fast user switching for windows 10, one method is to via group policy of your windows operating system and the other one is using windows registry. Both the method works fine for almost all users who have tested, so check both the methods and choose the best one suits you.

Method 1 – Enable or Disable Fast user Switching for Windows 10 using Group Policy

  • Scan for virus for your whole computer and make sure everything is safe and working fine.
  • Now open run you can do this by opening start and searching for Run or you can press CTRL and R together and the run dialog box will open.
  • Now you will have a box to enter text in the run window, type the following phrase in it and click on run or hit enter.
  • Phrase to enter: gpedit.msc which stands for group policy edit.
  • Now the group policy windows will open with all the group policies listed in the left pane of the windows and the extended files of the selected group policy. And the options in the right most pane.
  • Now check for the Local Computer Policy and then select Computer configuration under that, now check for the Administrative and then select System under that and then search for the logon in the systems folder, now click on the system and the files will be displayed in the right pane.
  • In the right pane, search for logon and right click on it and click on Hide Enter Points for Fast User Switching.
  • Now select Enabled, Disabled or Not configured according to your wish and the windows 10 fast user switching will act accordingly.

Method 2 – Enable or Disable Fast user Switching for Windows 10 using Registry

  • Scan for virus for your whole computer and make sure everything is safe and working fine.

  • Phrase to enter: regedit which stands for registry edit.
  • Now expand Hkey_local_machine, under that Software, under that Microsoft, under that Windows, under that Current version, under that current version, under that policies, under that system.
  • Now search for HideFastUserSwitching and change the value of it to 0 to enable and 1 to disable.
